Bonnie Schneider
After earning an Bachelor of Music (Boston University in 1963) and having a look at liberal arts education as professor (Brown University 1971-75) Now, I am convinced of the benefits of an integrated approach to learning that incorporates the study of art and other fields of study. That's not a shock coming from an ethnomusicologist who has acquired an MA in 1967, and also a Ph.D. from UCLA. My ethnomusicology program, which was started in 1975 at UC Berkeley in 1975-1976, is conveniently located in the department of music in the College of Letters and Science. It's great to be involved in several subjects. Also, I like looking at the bigger view. It's a pleasure to teach both graduate and undergraduate students. I am a published writer of 3 books, Music in India: the Classical Traditions; Thinking Musically as well as Music in Japan, Experiencing Music and Expressing Culture. It is my case that I'm mostly a Professor, as well as other time periods in which I do administrative work (such as chair of the Department of Music, 1983-1988 and Dean of Undergraduate Advising from 1992 to 1998, as well as Chair of Deans at the College of Letters and Science in 1994-98).
